Overview

MGM is joining hands with the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies and the Confraria da Gastronomia Macaense to host the MGM Macanese Cuisine Culinary Contest. This competition aims to discover and champion local culinary talent while preserving and promoting Macau's unique Macanese cuisine, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and a key part of the city's identity as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

Contest Details

• Eligibility: Open to Macau residents who are not current professional chefs or culinary arts teachers.
• Contest Categories:
  • Open Category: For individuals aged 18 and above.
  • Parent & Child Category: For teams of two—one parent and one child aged 10 to 16.
• Enrollment Period: December 1–31, 2021.
• Competition Format:
  • Preliminary Round: Submission of a cooking video.
  • Semi-Final & Final: Selected candidates will cook Macanese dishes on-site to compete for the top prize.

Cultural Significance

Macanese cuisine represents a unique fusion of Portuguese and Chinese flavors. This contest seeks to foster "culinary families" and encourage the younger generation to engage with and help preserve this important cultural heritage.
