About the Competition
The World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) is an international mathematics competition that brings together organizations dedicated to promoting mathematics from over 20 countries and regions, including the USA, China, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Macau, Iran, Bulgaria, India, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Australia, Brazil, Turkey, and Laos.
Each year, the Grand Final is held in a different country, gathering mathematical elites from around the world. This event provides students with an international platform to exchange ideas, broaden their global perspective, and compete for glory.
Competition Objectives
- Facilitate international exchange of mathematics teaching experiences.
- Improve the quality of mathematics education.
- Discover and nurture outstanding mathematical talent.
- Stimulate students' interest in learning and enhance their problem-solving abilities.
- Provide a platform for self-assessment and personal growth.
Competition Details
- Eligibility: Students for the 2019-2020 academic year
- Kindergarten students (age 6 or below)
- Primary 1 to Primary 6 students (separate groups for each grade)
- Secondary 1 to Secondary 6 students (separate groups for each grade)
- Preliminary Round Format: The test paper consists of two sections: Logical Thinking and Applied Operations. Available in Traditional Chinese and English.
- Grand Final: All exam papers are graded collectively by professional mathematics teachers from various countries, ensuring a fair, just, and transparent competition.
Macau Preliminary Awards
- Individual Awards:
- Gold Award: Top 5%
- Silver Award: Next 15%
- Bronze Award: Next 25%
- School Awards: Trophies for champion, 1st runner-up, and 2nd runner-up in Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary school categories. The "Most Active in Promoting Mathematics Award" is given to schools with the highest participation.
- Learning Center Awards: "Most Active in Promoting Mathematics - Learning Center" award. Gold award winners' tutors receive the "Outstanding Tutor" title and certificate.
Competition Process
- Preliminary Round
- Gold, Silver, and Bronze award winners are eligible to directly register for the 2020 WMI Grand Final.
- Other high-achieving participants can register for the Grand Final after training and a re-screening process.
