Overview

Discovering a city can begin with its food. The unique culinary culture of the Greater Bay Area is a convergence of countless cities, radiating distinctive cultural charm. Through food, we can see a city; behind every Bay Area delicacy lies a unique story, containing traces of culture and emotion. To help children from different regions deeply understand the cultural heritage of each city in the Greater Bay Area through food, enhance friendship and passion for literary creation among children, promote extensive interaction, comprehensive exchange, and deep integration among youth in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and strengthen their centripetal force towards the motherland, this creative writing competition has been launched.

Theme: "Food Traces in the Bay Area"
Target Participants: All primary school students in the Greater Bay Area (non-school students aged 8–11).

Submission Requirements

Content: Writing should combine the food history, culinary culture, or flavors of local specialties from various Bay Area cities, based on personal experiences and stories of people and events around you, to showcase the cultural charm of each place.
Format: Primarily narrative essays with a storyline. Title is self-determined. Length: 400–800 words.
Originality: All entries must be original, independently created, and not previously published in any official publication (including the internet). Plagiarism or impersonation will result in immediate disqualification.
Submission Method: Submit electronic manuscripts in WORD format via email. Each entry can list only one supervising teacher. Please keep a copy as submissions will not be returned.
Email Subject: Must be "Greater Bay Area Creative Writing Competition + Author's Name + Article Title".

Competition Structure

Preliminary Rounds: Divided into eight regions: Guangzhou, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Macao, and Hong Kong.
Selection: Each region will select 20–30 outstanding works to represent their region in the finals.
Judges: Preliminary judges are determined by each region. Final judges are recommended by the organizing and co-organizing units.

Awards & Prizes (Final Round)

First Prize (10 winners): MOP 500 cash + certificate of honor
Second Prize (15 winners): MOP 300 cash + certificate of honor
Third Prize (20 winners): MOP 200 cash + certificate of honor
Excellence Award (25 winners): MOP 100 cash + certificate of honor (The number of awards in preliminary rounds will be determined based on submissions in each region.)

Additional Awards & Opportunities

Excellent Organization Award: For schools/units with broad participation and high-quality submissions.
Excellent Instructor Award: For teachers supervising first, second, and third prize-winning works.
Publication: Selected winning works will be published in publications like Tong Wenhui and Shaonan Shaonv (Little Writers Edition).
Membership: Mainland winners (1st–3rd prize) gain eligibility to join the Guangdong Provincial Young Writers Association. Hong Kong and Macao winners (1st–3rd prize) gain eligibility to join the Macao Young Writers Community.
Anthology: Winning works may be compiled and published.

Timeline

Final Judging: November 2024, conducted by renowned writers, critics, and editors dispatched by the host region.
