Exhibition Overview
"Ups and Downs" is an art exhibition by artists Chai Rongyan and Lin Zhihen, presented as part of the 2021 Artist-in-Residence Program (AP 66). The exhibition showcases the results of the two creators, combining their four years of study in Macau and their feelings about the city's prosperity.
Artistic Concept
As Macau has progressed with the times, it has become a bustling metropolis. As art creators, we observe and record the fleeting moments of Macau's "ups and downs" from the sides of roads, the corners of alleys, and park benches. Buses follow fixed routes daily, and dust lingers in the air as people hurry away. While people remain busy every day, with no one having time to notice these subtle details, the earth and stones that remain in place have already witnessed a thousand years of Macau's stories.
Within these "ups and downs," some are still working late at night, some are already asleep, some have laughed through worldly affairs, some defy convention, and some have experienced the storms and clouds of life. We ourselves are floating and sinking on the crossroads that lie after graduation, searching for our own piece of the sky. Through the medium of printmaking, we etch our personal fluctuations and the fleeting light of memory onto paper.

Chai Rongyan
- Born in September 1998 in Quzhou, Zhejiang.
- Studied Visual Arts (majoring in Printmaking) at Macao Polytechnic Institute from 2017–2021.
- Member of the Macao International Printmaking Art Research Centre.

Lin Zhihen
- Born in August 1999 in Macau.
- Graduated in 2021 from the Macao Polytechnic Institute School of Arts with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, majoring in Printmaking.
- Her creations often focus on Macau architecture and scenery, including printmaking works, watercolor sketches, pen drawings, and installation art.
- Member of the Macao International Printmaking Art Research Centre.
