About the Exhibition

The charm of black and white film photography lies in that brief pause between composition and shutter release — an indescribable joy quietly emerges in that moment. What I pursue is the seamless, integrated essence within the image, whether it's a place, a cultural tradition, or a tiny detail; it's those delicate qualities that transcend what the naked eye can see, unexpectedly surfacing with subtlety. And the Casa da Música in Porto ignited my desire to capture it on film.

In 2006, I stood before this white concrete-cast "diamond" and photographed it with an old Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex camera. Under the blazing sun, it was embraced and set off by the surrounding dark granite old buildings, glowing brightly, with every facade seemingly narrating the glory of this city. Stepping inside, the impact of light and structure was even more direct. Traditional Portuguese handcrafted glass and tiles awaken within an extremely minimalist framework, achieving a quiet dialogue between tradition and modernity.

What's presented here are images of the building's exterior. This masterpiece born for music once faced controversy but has now become a cherished landscape for the citizens.

About the Artist

Lúcia is a cross-disciplinary visual artist whose creations span various forms including black and white photography, installations, and mixed media works. She is particularly renowned for her black and white photography, with works featured in solo exhibitions in Berkeley, Curitiba, Lisbon, Macau, Monza, Palermo, Porto, Salzburg, and Shanghai, receiving widespread attention. She also excels at using organic materials and diverse artistic languages for expression, with creations including photographic prints, jewelry, ceramics, sculptures, and art installations. She has participated in numerous Macau joint exhibitions, with her works consistently receiving professional recognition and awards.
