To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the renowned educator Chen Zibao, this special exhibition honors his significant contributions to modern education, particularly in promoting education for the common people, women, and children, and highlights his legacy of establishing schools in Macau. The exhibition is jointly organized by the University of Saint Joseph and the Macau Association for Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.
Since the latter half of the 16th century, Macau's unique position as a meeting point of Chinese and Western cultures has fostered educational innovation. This exhibition explores that history through five distinct sections.
Section 1: A Brief Biography of Chen Zibao Introduces the life and forward-thinking educational philosophy of Chen Zibao.
Section 2: Textbooks for Women and Children Displays dozens of textbooks edited by Chen Zibao specifically for women and children.
Section 3: A Continuous Legacy Showcases Chen Zibao's educational endeavors across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, highlighting his many students, including the famous Lingnan scholar Xian Yuqing.
Section 4: The Evolution of Textbook Printing Examines the diversity of printing techniques used in textbooks published over a century ago, featuring both traditional and modern methods.
Section 5: Textbooks from Different Eras Presents textbooks from the 1930s to the 2000s, illustrating the development of educational materials over time.
The exhibition is accompanied by two public lectures and a traditional printing workshop.
