Reuniting Porcelain: An Extended Experience of Macao’s Canton Porcelain

Macao's Canton Porcelain flourished from the 1960s to the 1980s, but gradually declined after the millennium. It was only after being listed as one of Macao's Intangible Cultural Heritage items last year that this lesser-known history and exquisite hand-painting craft gained wider recognition. This program, a collaboration between Macao Canton Porcelain inheritor Mr. Lei Iat Po and the Cardinal Newman Hall, aims to introduce more local residents to Macao Canton Porcelain and its culture through a seminar and hands-on workshops.

📍 Seminar: The Origin and Development of Macao’s Canton Porcelain

📍 Intangible Cultural Heritage Activity: Hand-painting Macao’s Canton Porcelain

• Description: Participants will use overglaze painting techniques to decorate a ceramic tile and an 8-inch plate. The activity covers the basic process of Canton Porcelain hand-painting, including observing the firing process. Finished pieces will be high-temperature fired by the instructor and can be collected 3–4 weeks later.
• Dates: April 18, April 25, May 9, May 16 (All Sundays)
• Time: 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM
• Instructor: Mr. Lei Iat Po, Inheritor of Macao Canton Porcelain
• Audience: Aged 13 or above
• Fee: MOP 1,880 for four sessions (materials included)
