Presented by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the "Neighbors and Neighborhoods: Chan Hin Io Documentary Photography Exhibition" showcases 26 documentary photographs taken by the Macao-based photographer between 2004 and 2021.
Chan Hin Io has lived and maintained a studio in the Wing Fok Wai (永福圍) community for many years, making him a true "old neighbor" of the area. The exhibition features his simple and natural photographic style, capturing the daily life of residents, street scenes, neighborly homes, traditional shops, and roadside vendors in the old districts near Rua dos Ervanários, Rua dos Mercadores, and Rua de Cinco de Outubro. The works capture warm and harmonious neighborhood interactions, showcasing the artist's keen observational skills.
Chan moved to Macao in 1999 and focuses his creative work on Macao's cultural customs and urban landscapes. His photographs document the city's changing scenery and the rise and fall of traditional trades in the old districts, serving as a vital carrier of Macao's urban memory with significant artistic, historical, and cultural value.
