The Taipa Village Cultural Association is pleased to present "Murmurs", a solo illustration exhibition by Macau artist Yang Sio Maan. Through a series of heartwarming illustrations, the exhibition tells stories and spreads warmth throughout the Taipa Village. The exhibition also marks the launch of her first picture book, Mr. Mi Goes to Buy Tomatoes, published by Fizzy Ink Publishing Ltd.
Yang Sio Maan's unique illustration style has recently been transformed into physical objects and art installations. Her fresh approach to depicting everyday life conveys a warm and poetic atmosphere, offering a necessary balance to our busy and demanding reality. By holding this solo exhibition at the Taipa Village Art Space, she aims to spread this heartfelt warmth to the community through storytelling.
The exhibition showcases three of the artist's illustration series:
Yang Sio Maan is the founder of Yang Sio Maan Illustration Studio and resides in Macau. She is known for using soft tones and brushstrokes to capture overlooked moments in life, skillfully employing metaphor to convey emotion. The characters in her work often quietly wander between distant places and dreams. Her professional work primarily involves commissioned illustrations and art education, frequently engaging in community art, book design, and niche publishing. Her works have been selected for the World Illustration Awards, the 3x3 International Illustration Awards, and the Hiii Illustration International Awards.
Founded in 2016, the Taipa Village Cultural Association is a non-profit organization formed by professionals dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of Taipa Village. It is committed to promoting the area's rich history and unique culture, fostering tourism and community development, further enhancing the tourism and cultural industries, and building a better community.
The association strives to revitalize Taipa Village by organizing various art and cultural activities, shaping the district into Macau's unique art and cultural tourism destination. It combines cultural and creative industries, art, exhibitions, and leisure entertainment to provide more recreational options for tourists and local residents, allowing them to experience the authentic traditional charm of Macau.
Taipa Village, once a Portuguese territory inhabited by fishermen, retains architecture that blends Portuguese and Chinese styles, along with a series of pastel-colored churches and Chinese temples. Distinct from Macau's casino resorts, this historic and exotic Taipa Village is a must-visit landmark for both locals and tourists.
