Joyful Celebration of the Year of the Horse - Lunar New Year Series 2014
To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the organizing department presents a series of 53 diverse activities from January 20 to February 23, including cultural performances, sports activities, large-scale exhibitions, workshops, craft demonstrations, and talks, aiming to bring joy to the New Year with the community.
Key Events
- New Year's Day Greetings (January 31): A large-scale New Year greeting event from 10:00 to 12:00 along the route from Ruins of St. Paul's to Senado Square, featuring a giant golden dragon parade, lion dance troupes, and the 12 zodiac animals and deities of Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity.
- Tibetan Cultural Performances: The "Tibet Shigatse Regional Ethnic Art Troupe" will perform music and dance programs with rich ethnic characteristics at various locations in Macau and the islands.
- Lantern Festival Evening (February 14): A Lantern Festival evening at Lou Lim Ieoc Garden with stage performances and traditional games like lantern riddles.
Sports & Wellness Activities
Organized in collaboration with the Sports Development Bureau and local associations:
- Lion Dance Performances:
- February 2 (4:00 PM) at Senado Square
- February 3 (4:00 PM) at Tap Seac Square
- New Year Bicycle Ride (February 2, 9:00 AM): Starts at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Municipal Park, cycling to Zhuhai's Yeli Island for good fortune.
- Inclusive Sports Fun Day (February 8, 3:00 PM): Held at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Municipal Park, featuring fun games for people with and without disabilities and their families.
- Sports Competitions (February 9):
- 8:30 AM: "Step Up to Prosperity" Macau Tower Run-Up (61 floors) at Macau Tower.
- Afternoon: "New Year 5-a-side Football Open" and "New Year Men's & Women's 3-on-3 Basketball Open" at Areia Preta Basketball Court.
