A series of pre-exhibition events for the upcoming "Xu Bing's Words" exhibition by the internationally renowned contemporary artist Xu Bing, hosted by the Macao Museum of Art. The events feature talks and introductions by the artist and prominent curators.
Born in Chongqing in 1955 and raised in Beijing. He was admitted to the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing in 1977, graduated in 1981 and stayed on as a teacher, and obtained his Master's degree from CAFA in 1987. He visited the United States as an Honorary Artist in 1990. In 2007, he returned to China to serve as the Vice President, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor at CAFA. He currently works and lives in Beijing and New York.
His works are frequently exhibited in important art museums and institutions worldwide. He has been invited to participate in international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Sydney Biennale, São Paulo Biennale, and Johannesburg Biennale on multiple occasions, and has won numerous significant awards. Okwui Enwezor once commented: "Xu Bing is an artist who can transcend cultural boundaries, transform Eastern and Western cultures, and use visual language to express his thoughts and real-world issues."
Independent curator and critic, currently living and working in Beijing. Since the late 1980s, he has been dedicated to the curation, criticism, and editing of Chinese contemporary art, emphasizing its experimental and critical nature, and focusing on the living conditions and artistic creations of marginalized, alternative art communities and the younger generation. He has authored millions of words in essays and critical articles. He is one of the most active independent curators and critics in China today.
Art critic and curator. Born in Changyuan, Henan in 1979, he graduated from the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2015 with a doctoral degree. He worked at the He Xiangning Art Museum from 2006 to 2012 and conducted post-doctoral research at Tsinghua University from 2015 to 2017. He has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions of Chinese contemporary art and has written art criticism columns for art magazines. He has edited and compiled works/document collections for artists including Xu Bing, Yue Minjun, and Zhou Chunya.
