The Macao Foundation presents the Macao Artist Promotion Programme: "Wong Yiu Wah Art Exhibition". The exhibition will open on November 4, 2016, at the Macao Science and Cultural Center, showcasing over 60 selected works by Macao artist Wong Yiu Wah. The exhibition will also feature the launch of the "Wong Yiu Wah Collection".
Wong Yiu Wah was born in Macao in 1947 and is currently the Vice Supervisor of the Macao Art Association. He began teaching art in the 1970s, participating in various art activities and founding the "Huangshan Painting Academy". He has served as an instructor for art teacher training courses organized by the Education Department (now the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau) and Western painting classes organized by the Macao Art Association, and has conducted art training classes for schools and associations. His works have been exhibited in the "National Art Exhibition", "Guangdong Provincial Exhibition", and exhibitions jointly organized by the Macao Art Association and the Macao Yee Yuan Calligraphy and Painting Association.
In the 1990s, he participated in the Guangzhou-Hong Kong-Macao Watercolor Invitational Exhibition and the Macao Art Association Member Exhibition. He also held a dual-sketch exhibition with local painter Lio Man Cheong. In the 2000s, he was invited to hold the solo watercolor exhibition "Mountain Forest Quiet Scenery" organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau. He held the "Splendid Macao" exhibition in Tibet and conducted sketching there. Upon returning to Macao, he participated in the "Tibet Travels Exhibition", "Macao Art Association Member Exhibition", and "Korea-Hong Kong-Macao Art Exchange Exhibition", and co-organized the "Watercolor 3Feel Exhibition" with local painters Lio Man Cheong and Sio In Leong.
Since the 2010s, he has devoted himself fully to art creation and community activities, frequently traveling to Tibet, Taihang Mountains, and other places to gather material for his creations. His paintings consistently reflect a realm of empty mountains and Zen-like tranquility.
Long ago, he traveled to the Zhangjiajie Nature Reserve in Hunan, escaping Macao's narrow streets to wander among peculiar mountain ranges, feeling the magnificence of the landscape and bathing in the morning dew. Years of sketching and gathering inspiration have forged an inseparable bond with nature. The loess plateau of Shaanxi, the pure land of Tibet, the red soil of Yunnan, and the sheer cliffs of the Taihang Mountains have infused his creations with endless nourishment. The artist believes that green mountains, clear waters, and the changing seasons are nature's selfless gifts to art. Facing nature with a reverent heart to listen brings infinite vitality and inspiration.
