To commemorate its fifth anniversary, Art For All Society (AFAM) is organizing a series of celebratory events this month, including multiple exhibitions and art talks. The exhibition "Waves of Change — AFAM Fifth Anniversary Member Exhibition" opened at the AFAM gallery on December 8.
AFAM was established in December 2007 as a local non-profit art organization. Its mission is to promote Macao's art creation, assist the Macao SAR Government in the development of local cultural initiatives and the cultural and creative industries. By uniting and gathering Macao artists, it aims to foster local creative output and increase artistic exchange between artists and other regions. Since October 2008, AFAM has also established a display space in Beijing's 798 Art District, bringing outstanding Macao art to Beijing and creating a new platform for artistic exchange between Mainland China and Macao.
Over its first five years, AFAM has collaborated with over 60 Macao artists to organize 80 exhibitions of Macao contemporary art in Macao, Beijing, and around the world. The participating artists are passionate about art creation, with many young artists showcasing particularly creative and surprising works that have invigorated the local art scene.
To mark its fifth anniversary, AFAM specially presents "Waves of Change — AFAM Fifth Anniversary Member Exhibition." It features 19 works (including sets) by ten post-80s generation artists. The participating artists include: Lei Sio Kit, Lei Ieng Wai, Hong Wai, Hio Hio Fong, Choi Kuok Kit, Wong Sze Teng, Cheng Wai Lan, Chan Wai Man, Peng Wan, and Hok Hoi Seng.
The exhibited works encompass a rich variety of themes and mediums, including painting, ink wash, video, and paper sculpture, showcasing the new face of local art. As curator Chu Chak Son states: "Academic education is only a necessary and extremely brief stage in an artist's life. Subsequent continuous creation, learning, and self-growth are the endless pursuits of those who love art creation throughout their lives." Through this exhibition, AFAM hopes to provide more development opportunities for the participating artists and cultivate the future successors of Macao's art world.
