An eight-day grand Buddhist ceremony, the "Water and Land Sacred Ground, the Compassionate Aid Assembly," is a profound ritual of blessing for all beings. Over a hundred eminent monks from around the world will preside over various Buddhist services day and night, joined by thousands of devotees to pray for the well-being of Macao's populace.
The "Grand Finale Send-off Parade" will commence from the Kong Tac-Lam Buddhist Temple of Piety and Longevity. The procession will travel through Travessa do Seminario, Rua de S. Lourenço, Avenida da Praia Grande, Avenida Dr. Stanley Ho, Travessa do Padre Narciso, and Rua de S. Lourenço before returning to the temple. The parade will feature lion dance performances and folk music ensembles.
This important Chinese Buddhist ritual is a great act of universal blessing. Offerings are made to beings from both land and water, including humans. The service also provides sustenance to hungry ghosts to alleviate their suffering. Known as the Water-and-Land Dharma Assembly, its origins are traced to a dream of Emperor Liang Wudi, who was visited by a monk.
