"Unconsciously" – Lin Chi-Hang Solo Exhibition presents approximately 8 woodcarving and ceramic works by artist Lin Chi-Hang. The exhibition contemplates the traces of contemporary life, exploring the value and responsibility towards materials often deemed worthless in our daily existence.
Our lives pass by unconsciously, day by day. Only upon looking back do we realize the various traces left behind—from shells left by humans in the Stone Age to the diverse waste generated in modern daily life. These unconsciously produced discards are precisely the traces of contemporary human life.
The artist cannot help but notice these materials considered valueless in everyday life, pondering the attitude and, more importantly, the responsibility a creator should have towards them. He does not consider himself an environmentalist; he simply refuses to hastily label things as waste to evade responsibility.
Lin Chi-Hang was born in Taipei in 1985. He graduated from the Department of Arts and Design at Taipei Municipal University of Education in 2008 and obtained his MFA in Sculpture from the Taipei National University of the Arts in 2012. He is currently a lecturer in the Bachelor of Visual Arts program at the Macao Polytechnic University's Faculty of Arts and Design and a member of the Macau Sculpture Society. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Taipei Yingge, Incheon, South Korea, and locally in Macau.
