We were born knowing how to draw and do handstands. As we grow, we forget these innate abilities. Society dictates a path, and we follow it, losing ourselves in the process. We live unhappily, performing tasks devoid of feeling every day.
Our faces may look similar, but we are not the same. We are strong, weak, stubborn, anxious, decisive, hesitant, angry, indifferent, fickle, passionate, dreamy... We just want to do our own thing and have a mood that is uniquely ours.
This year's Ox Warehouse children's exhibition, themed "That's How It Is," invited Taiwan's Mr. Handstand to participate in the exhibition and perform. Three years prior, his "Handstand Around Taiwan" project used action to connect with the land, revealing fundamental human issues through street performance and handstand selfies. Five young Macau creators—Leong Sin U, Un Chi Wai, Yeong Kun Ieng, Cheng Un Heng, and Wan Pou Lon—used paintings, journals, symbols, and installations to record their moods and personalities. Additionally, there were creations by children led by instructors Wong Siu Peng, Lo Sio Tou, and Lam Ut Ngor. Their work is pure, direct, and unpretentious. In children, we discover more possibilities; each one is unique and full of potential. We were never meant to be the same!
