A landmark exhibition celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Palace Museum and the 16th anniversary of the Macao Museum of Art, focusing on the architectural splendor of the Forbidden City.
This special exhibition marks the 17th annual collaboration between the Macao Museum of Art and the Palace Museum. Unlike previous exhibitions focusing on artifacts, this year's theme highlights the Forbidden City itself—the ancient palace that houses these treasures.
The exhibition is divided into four thematic sections, curated with the expertise of Palace Museum specialists. It explores the construction techniques, architectural models ('Tangyang' by the Yangshi Lei family), spiritually significant building components, and imperial inscriptions, offering a multi-faceted interpretation of the Forbidden City's architectural art. Multimedia presentations are used to enhance understanding of this unique cultural heritage.
The title 'Taiyi Cuo'e' draws from ancient Chinese astronomy, where 'Taiyi' is a star guarding the celestial emperor, symbolizing imperial power, mirroring the earthly Forbidden City's role as the center of the mortal world.
This exhibition represents a new direction, moving from displaying artifacts to interpreting the architectural vessel that contains them. It aims to reveal the historical experience, cultural depth, and modern significance behind the architectural artistry of this unparalleled ancient palace.
