"Somniloquence" is a solo exhibition by artist Tong Chong, presented as the first part of the "Perpetual Impermanence" Established Artists Exhibition Series for 2020. This series represents the artist's exploration of color over the past two to three years. Having entered middle age, Tong Chong has developed a new understanding of color, moving away from his previous absence of bright hues. He employs traditional Chinese painting pigments derived from plants and minerals for their natural quality, combining them with traditional paper-cutting techniques. Using bamboo fiber paper as his medium, he engages in painting, coloring, and collage.
Tong Chong has long been fascinated by primitivism and folk art, with an enduring exploration of totems that began in his youth. His painting style remains uniquely his own, dedicated to exploring the plasticity of transforming reality into patterns and images—a pursuit that also led him to sculpture.
The exhibition is Tong Chong's 11th solo show, featuring 22 of his latest and selected works, including 5 sculptures and a collection of paintings.
