Considered the "originator" of Hong Kong-style popular comedy comics, Sau Sing was first published in 1974 and quickly became one of the best-selling comic books in Hong Kong during the 1980s. Editor and illustrator Seung Koon Siu-keung transformed contemporary urban topics into jokes. Beneath its popular format lay a keen social awareness, distilling humor from everyday life experiences, captivating a generation born in the 50s and 60s.
The comic is named after its protagonist, "Sau Sing Jai" (Little Longevity Star). "Ah Sau" is less than five feet tall, weighs under 100 pounds, forever nine and a half years old, yet acts mature and speaks with rough language. This unique character design made Sau Sing popular for two decades.
This year marks "Ah Sau's" 40th birthday. His "dad," Seung Koon Siu-keung, has already launched the Sau Sing 40th Anniversary Special Issue and held a "40th Anniversary Commemorative Collection Exhibition" in Hong Kong. Now, he's bringing "Ah Sau" across the water to Macau! The exhibition will move to Macau, showcasing precious original manuscripts, color illustrations, out-of-print publications, and products and models featuring "Ah Sau's" portrait. A must-see for all Sau Sing fans! Ah Sau says "叻是高" (Let's be awesome) to everyone!
