Curator's Preface by João Ó
Wong Ka Long accepted the invitation to create an outdoor installation that deeply interacts with passersby. For years, he has used painted military helmets as alternative sculptural objects, making them a key stylistic element that blends Eastern and Western cultures.
In this exhibition, helmets are tied together with ropes and hung like bells, inviting curious visitors to swing them to create sound and even write wishes on them. These "Helmet Bells" are housed within larger bamboo structures, presented in two different forms: a Bell Tower and a Tea House. The latter lights up at night, creating a mysterious atmosphere and elevating the work to another level, echoing the notion that "art is the highest form of hope." Here, every visitor can ring a bell and make a wish.
