The lotus is an aquatic plant with a wide variety of species. Each year, the Lotus Festival selects a theme variety. This year's theme lotus is 'Shenzhou Mei Ao' (神州美．澳), with the festival theme 'Prosperous Lotus Celebrates Double Anniversary'. Through the display of the theme lotus and a variety of seasonal flowers and plants, the festival celebrates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.
