Photographic postcards are a dual-purpose medium of information. The front side carries the photographer's visual impression of the social environment, while the back bears the sender's private messages, recording experiences and anecdotes from around the world in written form, adding documentary value to the postcard. Postcards began circulating internationally in the early 20th century, witnessing the dawn of the 'photographic age' in world civilization.
This exhibition begins by specially selecting postcards from this period. It will showcase over 260 photographic postcards carefully selected from the image archives of the Macao Archives. Through the rich content of these images, the exhibition presents the historical culture, urban architecture, ethnic characteristics, economic development, and natural ecology of Macau and related regions including Angola, Cape Verde, former Portuguese India, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.
