To reflect the sharing of cultural resources between Shenzhen and Macau and deepen cultural exchanges, the Public Library Management Department of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, in collaboration with Shenzhen Library, presents the "Prehistory of Books" exhibition. This exhibition showcases the recording methods used by ancient civilizations before the invention of paper.
Long before paper was invented, ancient civilizations around the world, constrained by their local environments and resources, recorded information using various materials and writing methods. For example, ancient Chinese civilizations primarily inscribed texts and images on pottery, bones, bronze, and stone. In contrast, Western civilizations used diverse methods such as knot-tying, cave paintings, clay tablets, papyrus, and parchment.
This exhibition features over 70 images accompanied by textual explanations, presenting the precious records left by both Eastern and Western ancestors. It offers a glimpse into the lives of ancient humans and highlights their wisdom and ingenuity.
