Pong Pong: Bai Qiang's Memoir New Works Exhibition Opening & 'Tempering • Bai Qiang' Book Launch
This exhibition features sixteen new works by artist Bai Qiang, which condense the essence of his book Tempering • Bai Qiang. Through these canvases, Bai Qiang revisits every significant life juncture from his 35 years.
The passing of his mother at the end of 2013 left Bai Qiang with a profound sense of emptiness. During this period, he reflected on his life, re-experiencing and journeying through his own existence. This exhibition presents that journey, which felt guided by his mother, using imagery to express his inner world.
The artist hopes viewers will contemplate the immense impact that giving and receiving "love" can have on an individual. Whether positive or negative, love is undoubtedly a primary component of personal growth.
Born in Macau in 1978, Bai Qiang is a full-time artist, painter, and illustrator, renowned for his live improvisational creations. He is also the frontman and lead vocalist of the metal band 刃記 (Blade).
Leaving home in his youth to explore the world, he has traversed high mountains and deep seas. He translates each thrilling and extraordinary experience into paintings and composes them into music. Actively exhibiting since 2005, he favors using pencil and markers to rapidly capture the swiftly churning visions from his mind and heart onto paper and canvas. This has become his signature live-painting technique—working without sketches or predetermined themes, allowing the flow of consciousness to map out his most sincere and profound psychological landscapes.
In recent years, Bai Qiang has also experimented with various mediums, striving to expose his spiritual world more concretely and openly.
