When you think of pirates, do you only think of Johnny Depp, hooks, and eye patches?
The Macao Archives holds an important collection of archival documents and visual materials (maps and photographs) related to pirate activities in the Pearl River Delta region. The exhibition "Pirates in Macao Waters (1854-1935)" aims to introduce visitors to the pirate activities in Macao's waters from the latter half of the 19th century to the early 20th century. Visitors can also explore the phenomenon of piracy as a complex social activity, examining the role it played within the broader political, economic, social, and cultural systems and its multiple implications for Macao.
