The Opening of Kun Iam's Storehouse is a traditional annual event where devotees pray to the Goddess of Mercy (Kun Iam) to open her treasury, seeking blessings for wealth and prosperity in the coming year.
From midnight on the eve of the annual "Open Storehouse," the faithful gather outside Kun Iam Temple. They hope to be among the first to deliver their wishes for good fortune, performing rituals to "return money" and "borrow money" symbolically. Stalls outside the temple sell traditional incense and pinwheels. Kun Iam Temple, which dates from the Ming Dynasty, is one of the three oldest and most significant temples in Macau.
