Open Call for Proposals

The Cultural Affairs Bureau, through the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), is launching an open call for proposals for the Macao, China Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. This initiative aims to promote Macau's contemporary art on the global stage.

Key Details

• Submission Period: From now until July 28, 2023.
• Exhibition Opportunity: Selected works will be exhibited in Venice, Italy, in April 2024.

Eligibility & Team Requirements

Proposals must be submitted by a team. Key requirements include:

• Teams must consist of at least two members.
• One member must be the curator.
• All participating artists and proposers must be Macau Permanent Residents.
• All team members must be at least 18 years old.
• At least one team member must have experience participating in public contemporary art exhibitions and hold a relevant academic qualification in an art-related field.

Selection Process

A jury composed of experts in the field and representatives of the Cultural Affairs Bureau will evaluate the proposals. The results will be announced in September 2023.

About the Venice Biennale

Founded in 1895, the Venice International Art Biennale is the oldest art biennial in the world and one of the 'big three' global art exhibitions. It serves as a premier platform for international contemporary art, attracting over 800,000 visitors and art enthusiasts in 2022. Since 2007, the Macao Museum of Art has participated in this major event eight times under the name 'Macao, China,' showcasing the works of 19 artists and promoting Macau's contemporary art internationally.
