Beyond the iconic landmarks like the Ruins of St. Paul's, A-Ma Temple, and the Church of St. Dominic on the World Heritage list, does Macau have any other architectural heritage? In recent years, old buildings and markets in Macau have been successively demolished, including the Mong-Ha Barracks, the Civil Servant Dormitory on Rua de S. Paulo, and Tou Hua Kong. As a World Heritage city, why are some of Macau's old buildings demolished so easily? How many more old structures are left unprotected by law and undervalued by society?
This lecture, aligned with the theme of the current issue of New Generation magazine, invites architects and urban planners to introduce precious yet overlooked buildings in Macau and discuss their cultural value in detail. Some of these buildings might be ones you pass by every day but have never truly appreciated.
