The 'National Peace and Prosperity' exhibition, jointly presented by the Rui Cunha Foundation and Macau Six Arts Culture, showcases the exquisite paper cutting art of Huang Shaoqiong. The exhibition features 58 original works across ten distinct series, each piece reflecting the artist's journey and growth.
Huang Shaoqiong, an inheritor of the Chaoyang paper cutting tradition from Guangdong, has been practicing the craft for nearly three decades. 'Meizhi' translates to 'beautiful paper,' symbolizing her emotional connection to the art, where she expresses her aspirations for a beautiful life through auspicious red paper.
Her work skillfully integrates the forms and styles of Chaoyang paper cutting, blending its unique charm with elements of calligraphy, fine art, and carving to create a distinctive personal style. Her series often employ the traditional 'flower within a flower' technique and adhere to the principle that 'every pattern has meaning, and every meaning is auspicious.' Huang Shaoqiong's approach is one of innovation rooted in tradition, using scissors as a brush to create intricate, meaningful, and heartfelt art.
All are welcome to visit and appreciate this celebration of traditional folk art evolving into a diverse artistic expression.
