Mountascent Municipal Park is a multifunctional park centered on Guia Hill, the highest point on the Macau Peninsula. It offers the most expansive and beautiful views of Macau's cityscape and outlying islands.
Known as the "green lung" of the Macau Peninsula, the area's greening began under Portuguese Governor Tomás de Sousa Rosa (1883–1886), who planted numerous South China pine trees, giving the hill its name (松山, Pine Hill).
Ecologically, the park is a biodiverse urban natural forest with well-developed vegetation succession. It is home to many ancient trees, including approximately eight of Macau's oldest Masson's pines, as well as numerous large banyan and camphor trees with trunk diameters exceeding one meter. The park features a multi-layered vegetation structure with Masson's pine, banyan, false bodhi, candlenut, cassia, sterculia, elaeocarpus, and more, alongside shrubs, ferns, and herbs. Despite being an evergreen broad-leaved forest, seasonal changes bring autumn colors from trees like elaeocarpus and sapium.
The summit of Guia Hill is home to the Guia Fortress, which contains the iconic Guia Lighthouse and the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, a 17th-century Portuguese-style chapel. Both structures were inscribed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed "Historic Centre of Macau" in 2005.
