In 2013, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Yee Yuen Painting and Calligraphy Association, the Macao Museum of Art and the Association jointly presented the "Mirror Lake Colors: Chui Tak Kei Calligraphy and Painting Retrospective Exhibition" as part of the "Yee Yuen 60 Years" series. This special exhibition featured 60 sets of works from different periods of Chui Tak Kei's career, commemorating the Association's 60th birthday.
Chui Tak Kei, whose ancestral home was in Xinhui, Guangdong, studied at St. Joseph's Seminary and later pursued pharmacology in Guangzhou. He graduated from the Guangdong Sino-German Architectural Engineering School and subsequently worked in the construction industry, becoming one of the founders of the Macao Construction Merchants Association.
Renowned for his charitable work and dedication to helping the underprivileged, Chui was highly respected in society. He began learning sketching in his youth. During World War II, he associated with many calligraphy and painting masters who sought refuge in Macao, diligently practicing and eventually mastering ink paintings of orchids and bamboo. He established extensive connections and founded the Yee Yuen Painting and Calligraphy Association, which became a vital platform for the exchange of Chinese painting and calligraphy art in Macao.
Chui held numerous prestigious positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society, Vice President of the Macao Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Honorary Permanent President of the Macao Construction and Real Estate Merchants Association, and Founder and President of the Yee Yuen Painting and Calligraphy Association.
