"Mind Without Obstacles: Fu Shen Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" presented a comprehensive showcase of works by the renowned scholar and artist Professor Fu Shen. The exhibition featured 68 sets of calligraphy and painting pieces created by Fu Shen from the 1950s onwards, offering a broad view of his artistic development.
Fu Shen (courtesy name Junyue) was born in 1936 in Nanhui, Shanghai, and moved to Taiwan with his family at age 13. A distinguished scholar of Chinese art history, connoisseur, calligrapher, and painter, he is an authority on the authentication of Zhang Daqian's works.
Author of numerous scholarly works including Studies of Chinese Calligraphy in Overseas Collections, The Calligraphy of Dong Qichang, Shitao, The World of Zhang Daqian, and A Study of Huang Tingjian's Dizhu Ming. He has held solo exhibitions at the National Museum of China and the National Museum of History in Taiwan.
Fu Shen was a pivotal figure among modern scholars who possessed deep traditional cultural knowledge while integrating Eastern and Western influences. His calligraphy, though not pursued for fame, holds significant aesthetic value, reflecting his personal character and academic background.
