Giulio Acconci was born in Macau, China, in 1972. His father was Oseo Acconci, an Italian sculptor turned building constructor, whose many works can still be seen around Macau, one of which is the Estoril bathing woman mosaic façade.
He completed his primary and secondary studies at Yeut Wah College, graduating in 1989. He then moved to Italy, where he began working as an assistant painter to Agostino Dessi, a renowned Venetian mask maker in Florence. He later studied graphic design at the Istituto Spinelli.
Acconci has worked as a graphic designer in Italy and London, and also pursued a career in music. In 2016, he returned to his first passion, painting. Using watercolour as his primary medium and drawing from his extensive graphic design experience, he is developing a unique artistic language.
