Exhibition Overview
mǎorganic is a collaborative project by four artists, exploring the relationship between man-made and natural landscapes. The title is a portmanteau of the Chinese word "mǎo" (冇, meaning "nothing" or "negativeness") and "organic," thus suggesting "not-organic" or "inorganic." The exhibition investigates how artificial environments reshape our perception of nature, ultimately questioning how modern city dwellers define the concept of "Nature."
Presented as a form of field report, the exhibition features photography alongside archival documents and texts, encouraging viewers to engage in reflection and dialogue.
Featured Artists
- Alan Ieon (楊俊榮): Born in 1987, a physics graduate from National Tsing Hua University. His work focuses on city landscapes, urban/national regimes, and personal identity, often revealing the absurdities within systems.
- Tang Kuok Hou (鄧國豪): Born in Macau in 1989, a sociology graduate from the University of Macau. His themes revolve around identity, time, memory, and local culture, exploring connections between urbanites and landscapes.
- Wong Cheok Meng (黃卓銘): Born in Macau in 1990, a software engineering graduate from the University of Macau. His work explores themes of city, space, and symbols to probe the meaning of existence.
- Rusty Fox (黃霐雴): Born in Macau in 1991, holds a BA and MA in photography from Newport, UK. Interested in the often-neglected relations between organic and inorganic things, he uses documentary photography to facilitate dialogue.
