The Historic Centre of Macao preserves the essence of over 400 years of cultural exchange between China and the West. It is the oldest, largest, and most complete historical district in China where Eastern and Western architectural styles coexist, serving as a vital historical testament to the spread of Western religious culture in China and the Far East.
Over four centuries, Chinese and Portuguese residents created distinct living communities within the Historic Centre. These communities not only showcase the Sino-Western architectural artistry of Macao but also demonstrate the fusion and mutual respect between the two peoples in terms of religion, culture, and daily customs. The warmth, simplicity, and inclusive community spirit nurtured jointly by the Chinese and Portuguese communities represent Macao's most distinctive and valuable characteristic.
This international workcamp aims to organize young volunteers from around the world to learn about Macao's World Cultural Heritage sites. Volunteers will utilize their language skills and cultural networks (exchange platforms, Facebook) to promote these sites to their home countries. During the camp, they will also conduct promotional activities at various World Heritage locations in Macao to deepen their own understanding and that of tourists visiting the city.
