Long an integral part of religious Taoist ceremonies, adherents believe that music is a way to speak to the gods, to inspire religious followers and to achieve inner harmony, bringing the listener closer to the Tao, the path to enlightenment.
In this intriguing concert, the Macau Taoist Orchestra will collaborate with the Henan Province Taoist Orchestra, embracing the different styles of Taoist music originating from Macau and Henan.
Taoist Ritual Music in Macau - listed as a National Intangible Cultural Legacy in 2011 - comprises Taoist Ritual Music from the Zhengyi School and Quanzhen School. In addition to these classical Taoist music pieces, the Macau Taoist Orchestra will perform unique Taoist percussion melodies.
