"Macau 2049" is an exhibition showcasing a series of sci-fi works by Portuguese conceptual artist and illustrator Ricardo Lima, themed around a futuristic vision of Macau. The artist's creations are inspired by the worlds built in classic science fiction films, including Blade Runner (1982), Akira (1988), Total Recall (1990), Ghost in the Shell (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), and Dredd (2012).
Seizing this opportunity, Ricardo Lima developed a conceptual art project, using Macau—a place he has never visited—as the backdrop for a film viewed through a dystopian lens. Through a science fiction narrative, the works depict the relationship between the metropolis and nature, accelerating towards an artificial future through cycles of change.
