Event Overview
The 7th edition of the Macao Light Festival, themed "Mars Wants to Travel," explores the hottest topic of the year. The festival tells the story of a Martian friend who wants to visit Macao, weaving together elements of tourism, creative culture, science, leisure, food, environmental protection, wellness, nature, and the universe. Through a humorous approach, it aims to deliver joy and positive energy, highlighting Macao's image as a healthy and pleasant travel destination.
Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the festival will run from December 4, 2021, to January 2, 2022, bringing light installations, interactive games, and projection mapping performances to various communities across Macao, including Taipa and Coloane. The event integrates "Tourism + Creative Culture" to boost the local economy and celebrate the festive season with residents and visitors.

Festival Locations
The festival spreads across multiple districts, covering the following areas:
- New Reclamation Area (Zona de Aterro): Macao Science Center Forecourt and Seawall, and the Glass Bridge connecting the Macao Cultural Centre and the Guanyin Statue Seaside Leisure Area.
- Nam Van Area: Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, the promenade connecting the two locations, and Nam Van Lake.
- Northern District: Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira Leisure Area.
- S. Lourenço District: Pier No. 1 and Barra Pier.
- Central District: Travessa dos Anjos, Pátio do Espinho, Rua dos Ervanários, Travessa do Auto Novo, and Largo do Pagode da Barca.
- Taipa: Stairs connecting Rua Direita Carlos Eugénio and Rampa dos Cavaleiros, Largo do Carmo, Largo dos Bombeiros, and Arco da Taipa.
- Coloane: Largo do Presidente António Ramalho Eanes, Chapel of St. Francis Xavier, and Largo do Dr. Carlos d'Assumpção.
Projection Mapping Performances
Four projection mapping shows will be presented by teams from Macao, Hengqin, Changsha, and Tokyo at unique locations:
- Macao Science Center: "Original Macao" by the team from Changsha, a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts.
- Largo do Pagode da Barca (Central District): "We" presented by the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone's Bureau of Public Services.
- Largo dos Bombeiros (Taipa): "Soaring" by a team from Tokyo (presented remotely due to pandemic travel restrictions).
- Chapel of St. Francis Xavier (Coloane): "Encounter" by a local Macao team.
Games & Gifts
- Online Game: Complete the game on the official festival website, share a screenshot on social media as instructed, and redeem a special themed gift at any festival gift redemption point.
- On-site Games: Complete designated interactive games on-site and share specific images for a chance to win gifts.
- Gifts are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Health & Safety Measures
To ensure a safe environment, the festival will implement crowd control measures with designated entrances and exits. All attendees must:
- Present a valid green Macao Health Code.
- Undergo body temperature checks.
- Maintain a social distance of 1 meter.
- Wear a mask at all times.
The MGTO will closely monitor the pandemic situation and follow health guidelines.
