About the Exhibition
A soft wind may bring along remarkable changes. Taiwanese artist Hsiao Mei, who has traveled to India, Brazil, Switzerland, and Spain, made her third visit to Macao for a seven-month artist-in-residence project. Filled with nostalgia for the city's bygone quaintness—the sea breeze, evening sun, meandering alleys, old two-storey western buildings, and Portuguese-style arches—she captures Macao through her imagination and observation.
Using canvas and oil paint, Hsiao Mei depicts contemporary Macao, her imagined version of the city, and, most prominently, the意境 (artistic conception) of old Macao. The exhibition explores the city's unique East-meets-West character, its colonial history, and its old-world charm—elements the artist finds precious and worth recording.
