Overview
This year marks the 25th anniversary – the Silver Jubilee – of the Macao Arts Festival. The festival presents 31 diverse programmes, along with comprehensive exhibitions and outreach activities, totalling over 200 events. The theme for this year is 'Impulse', symbolizing the surging power of the arts to nourish sentiment and boost creativity.
Programme Highlights
- Opening Ceremony: The magnificent Macao Arts Festival Silver Jubilee Opening Concert featuring local musical elites at Tap Seac Square.
- Closing Ceremony: The original audiovisual mapping show A Dream of Light projected onto the Ruins of St. Paul's.
- Local Focus: Over half of the programmes are locally produced, showcasing talent across dance, theatre, music, multimedia, family entertainment, and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
- Innovative Collaborations: A first-time crossover between dance and the national intangible heritage, Cantonese Naamyam (storytelling through song), performed in a traditional Cantonese tea house.
- International & Classic Works: Features renowned postmodern dance Dance by composer Philip Glass and choreographer Lucinda Childs, the classic multimedia theatre The Andersen Project, the 360-degree dance film Dome Dance, and the experimental multimedia musical Half a Lifelong Romance based on Eileen Chang's novel.
