About the Exhibition

Taipa Village Cultural Association, in collaboration with the Hong Kong creative collective ZINECOOP, presented the "Is It Zine? Make Your Own Zine!" exhibition in April 2019. The exhibition aimed to promote zine culture and independent publishing, creating a platform for cultural exchange. It sought to foster connections with local art groups and creative communities, encouraging participation in independent publishing, seminars, and magazine production.

This exhibition showcased ZINECOOP's extensive and compelling collection of magazines and printed works, including broadsheets and risograph prints.

About ZINECOOP

Founded in November 2017, ZINECOOP is a collective formed by a group of Hong Kong artists and designers. The group was established with the goal of mutual inspiration within the independent publishing platform, organizing workshops, and participating in book fairs worldwide. Their mission is continuous learning and creating broader exchanges, with an open membership.

What is a Zine?

A zine is a nickname for fanzine (a portmanteau of 'fan' and 'magazine'). It is a handcrafted, low-cost printed publication. Zine content is diverse, covering topics related to society, daily life, and personal stories. They are expressed through a rich mix of text, photographs, graphics, and illustrations.
