"Infant Observation" is one of the foundational training components in child psychotherapy. It helps clinical practitioners learn about the emotional development of infants in their early stages and the formation of their inner world. It also aids in understanding the subconscious meaning behind infant behavior and communication patterns, thereby fostering empathy for the early internalized object-relation patterns of infants.
Clinically, this training can help therapists understand clients' non-verbal behaviors, enhance sensitivity in identifying various emotions, and assist in managing clients' infantile transference. Furthermore, by observing the emotional interactions between infants and their families, psychotherapists can cultivate their capacity for containment and develop a mental space for reflective thinking.
