To understand the art market, visiting galleries and artists' studios is an excellent method. The Macao Visual Arts Industry Association is organizing a guided tour, allowing Macao residents interested in the regional art market ecosystem to personally enter artists' studios, meet the artists, and also visit multiple open-day exhibitions.
In recent years, many art groups in Macao have moved into industrial buildings, and some organizations have rented several floors to provide free or low-cost studios for artists and cultural/creative workers. In nearby Hong Kong, artists began moving into industrial buildings over a decade ago. The well-known "Fo Tan" area in the New Territories has, since 2000, gradually gathered a community of artists establishing studios, galleries, and other art spaces. From just a few individuals initially, it has grown to hundreds of artists today, forming one of the most concentrated "artist villages" in the Hong Kong-Macao region. It annually hosts the "Fo Tan Artist Studio Open Plan," opening studios to the public. This year's open plan is the largest ever, featuring nearly 250 artists and 88 participating studios.
