Macau is a melting pot of Eastern and Western religious traditions, with landmarks like the Ruins of St. Paul's, A-Ma Temple, Na Tcha Temple, and the Cathedral all located within the UNESCO World Heritage 'Historic Centre of Macao'. Adding to this rich tapestry, the city's first-ever Macau Linshui Palace (11th Floor, 2nd Phase, Nam Fung Industrial Building, Avenida de Venceslau de Morais; open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm) opened its doors to the public on July 25th. The palace venerates Madame Linshui, originally known as Chen Jinggu, a revered figure from the Tang Dynasty celebrated as the 'goddess protector of women and children'.
This inaugural festival offers a unique opportunity to delve into the Taoist beliefs surrounding 'merciful repentance' and the customs of Chen Jinggu worship.
Linshui Palace, now open to the public free of charge, is dedicated to Madame Linshui (Chen Jinggu). Legend says she was drawn to Taoism from a young age and spent her life subduing demons and evil spirits, with a special focus on safeguarding women and children.
