This exhibition was held in conjunction with the annual major exhibition "Taiyi Cuo'e – Forbidden City Architectural Art Special Exhibition", a collaboration with the Palace Museum in Beijing. It presented eighty-one ink paintings depicting scenes of the Forbidden City, offering Macao residents a more comprehensive appreciation of the beauty of its architecture through diverse artistic expressions.
After settling in China in 1997, Chauderlot abandoned Western color painting techniques. He adopted Chinese ink and brush, creating ink wash paintings on Western paper. His work successfully combines Western principles of perspective with the Chinese painting concept of "leaving blank space." His pieces emphasize light, shadow, and ink tone gradations, resulting in clearly defined layers within the composition. His unique style earned him acclaim in the art world and the distinction of being the first foreign artist granted permission by the Beijing Palace Museum to enter and depict the Forbidden City.
Through these works, viewers can retrace the artist's footsteps within the Forbidden City from 2002 to 2004. Each painting in the exhibition seems to recount his process of sketching and painting from life.
