Japanese calligrapher Inoue Yuichi once described the process of creation as a conflict between oneself and one’s internalized pain. When I create, I believe in adapting naturally to the flow of the piece. When conscious of each and every stroke applied, the brush becomes unstable. Like when once conscious of the fact one is playing the piano, that is when it goes out of tune.
The works on display consist of improvisational dots, lines, and colour. Each brush is drawn in a peaceful state of mind, reflecting the image in my heart onto the surface.
As the saying goes, one should not be obsessed with trying to attain something while in the process forgetting how one may attain it. In the intentional pursuit of beauty, what one might find is the opposite. Everything should come naturally.
