Five independent rooms, five young women born in the 1990s, five monologues from the depths of their hearts.
"It is much more important to be oneself than anything else." Quoted from the 20th-century British author Virginia Woolf's novel, A Room of One's Own, this exhibition draws focus on several core concepts from the literature, discussing the cruciality of women's independence in relation to their identity, as well as the idea of having a 'personal space'.
How do young women investigate the concept of 'self' in the present day? What are their stories? This exhibition presents five emerging female artists from Mainland China and Macau, each owning a 'room,' while every 'room' unveils the artist’s very own monologue, revealing her truest self as a woman of today. Across a variety of art forms and mediums, the artists explore the concept of identity in connection to the different 'spaces' that intertwine with the personal, family, and social aspects, in the hope of enhancing people's awareness towards gender equality, women's rights, and women's physical and mental health.
Every girl is the heroine of her own life, and this exhibition is a beautiful poem dedicated to them.
