Macao's street culture is diverse and rich. The crisscrossing alleys and streets developed over different periods are laden with the living culture and historical footprints of residents, exuding the city's unique charm. The shops and trades that emerged alongside these streets are vital elements for studying past historical culture and community activities, serving as carriers of the streetscape.
To preserve historically significant objects, deepen local historical research, and highlight Macao's city image, the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) launched a series of cultural relic collection projects related to old-style shops in 2011. A total of 1,437 items/sets were collected. Concurrently, oral history recording and artifact restoration were conducted on related themes. These efforts aim to preserve items of historical value and raise public awareness of cultural heritage protection. This led to the organization of the "Heritage Memory – Precious Antiques Roving Exhibition."
The exhibition showcases themed items from four traditional trades across four different venues, aiming to reach into the community. It allows the public to understand the humanistic sentiments embedded in the exhibits, recognize their unique cultural value, and appreciate the charm of Macao.
