Event Overview

Celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Rooster with the Cultural Affairs Bureau's "Golden Rooster Welcomes Spring Fortune" series. This festive program features a diverse range of workshops, exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and performances across multiple venues, inviting residents and visitors to welcome the Lunar New Year together.

Workshops & Activities

• Creative Spring Couplet Workshops: Held at various cultural facilities. Learn large-character calligraphy for couplets at Mandarin's House (Jan 21, 22, 27). Special workshops for Macao Museum of Art (MAM) members on Jan 22 (suitable for children 5+ and parents).
• DIY Couplet & Postcard Making: Use festive stamps to create your own couplets at Jao Tsung-I Academy (Jan 24 – Feb 2) and Lou Kau Mansion (Jan 27 – Feb 3). Create postcards with stamps at General Ye Ting's Former Residence and No. 80 Rua da Tercena (Jan 27 – Feb 3).
• Free Couplet Giveaway: Receive free festive couplets at MAM (Jan 22) and No. 80 Rua da Tercena (Jan 27–29).
• Specialty Workshops: Participate in the Printmaking Workshop at Jao Tsung-I Academy (Jan 24 – Feb 2) or the New Year Fan Painting Workshop at General Ye Ting's Former Residence (Jan 28–30).
• Traditional Craft Workshops: Held at Macao Tea Culture House on Feb 11 & 12. Morning session (10:30 AM) features Guangdong Embroidery (Bead Embroidery); afternoon session (3:00 PM) features Yangjiang Kite Making. Note: Some workshops require prior registration.

Performances & Concerts

• Guangdong Liannan Yao Ethnic Art Troupe Performances: Enjoy "Liannan Yao Long Drum Dance" performances across Macao and the islands (Jan 27–30).
• Lion Dance Performance: "Dragon Soars, Tiger Leaps" Lion Dance at Mandarin's House on the first day of the Lunar New Year (Jan 28).
• New Year Concerts: "New Year Celebration Concert" at Lou Kau Mansion (Jan 28–30). "2017 Spring Welcoming Concert" by the Macao Chinese Orchestra at Bairro do Hipódromo Activity Centre (Jan 20). "Spring Fortune Welcoming Concert" by the Macao Conservatory (Jan 24).

Exhibitions

• "Spring Breeze Brings Green to the South - Guangdong, Hong Kong & Macao Spring Festival Customs Exhibition": Open from Jan 26 at the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau Gallery and Chun Chok Tong, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden. Features woodblock New Year paintings, lanterns, paper-cuttings from Guangdong; Cantonese opera and ritual exhibits from Hong Kong; and displays of Macao's past fishing life and festival celebrations.
• Live Craft Demonstrations:
  • Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau Gallery (Jan 26–31): Foshan woodblock New Year paintings, paper-cutting (Foshan copper chisel carving), and inlay crafts.
  • Chun Chok Tong, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden (Feb 11–13): Clay sculpture (Dawu clay sculpture), nut carving (Mianqie carving), and lantern crafts (Foshan colored lanterns).
• "Peaceful Spring Message - Exquisite Flower Vessels from the Palace Museum Collection" at MAM: The 18th annual grand exhibition in collaboration with the Palace Museum, featuring over 100 sets of exquisite flower vessels. Guided tours available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 5:00–6:00 PM during the exhibition period.

Family & Lecture Events

• "New Year Parent-Child Storytime": Held throughout February at multiple Wong Ieng Kuan libraries (Areia Preta Urban Park, Sun Yat Sen Park, Montanha Russa Park) and other public libraries. On-site registration welcome.
• Spring Festival Lecture: "Historical Changes and Regional Characteristics of Lingnan Spring Festival Customs" at Ieong Sam Tong, Lou Lim Ieoc Garden (Feb 11 & 12).
