Four Elements Rhythm: Ink Art Exhibition by Four Emerging Artists
An exhibition curated by Ye Xin, featuring four students from the Macao Polytechnic University: Bian Xiaoxuan, Zhong Liu Aili, Xue Ruoxi, and Liu Haohong. Using ink as their medium, they explore how contemporary artists can find innovative vocabulary within traditional techniques. These young artists break free from formal constraints, intertwining "form" and "rhythm" to reconstruct the artistic context of traditional ink painting.
Artist Statements
- Bian Xiaoxuan: "Talismans and art are rejuvenated in contemporary creation. This is the fusion of traditional symbols and power with a modern vision. The seamless fit of tradition and modernity allows one to feel the contemporary pulse of folk culture within the form and meaning of talismans."
- Zhong Liu Aili: "An ancient Chinese saying goes: 'See the big from the small.' My work likes to start from the small things around me, using dreamy, soft colors to express subtle inner feelings. I strive to infuse the subtle emotions felt in contemporary urban life into new forms and ancient lines, allowing my meticulous brushwork to produce a different aura from tradition."
- Xue Ruoxi: "Butterflies often appear in my paintings, symbolizing the transformation and rebirth of life. This process is interpreted as a symbol of growth, hope, and renewal. In the process of painting butterflies, practicing over and over, from clumsy to refined, I also wish to constantly reshape and grow like a butterfly..."
- Liu Haohong: "I am good at capturing the delicate veins of the city through my brush. The changes in the city are like spring rain nourishing the earth, silently seeping into every corner of life. I am fascinated by magnifying the overlooked details of daily life, transforming ordinary scenes into captivating visual narratives."
